I liked the Kim Petras piece, for the “Woo AHH” bit, and the hat anecdote. I’m not very fired up to read the rest of it though. That said, in principle I’m more into the idea of a a regular music (or perhaps “film” since the NYer is too pretentious to call it movies) issue than a style issue, or an innovators issue, or even to be honest a money issue since that so often veers into credulous profiles.

I'd love a film issue. I like the style issue because the concept is versatile but also specific, something that isn't as true of the other themes you mention. (Virtually everything involves "money" or "innovation" with a little spin.)

I hear you, it just so often lends itself to an “On and Off the Avenue” piece by Patricia Marx and one on some fashion designer that I almost never care about. The portfolio is nice printed on paper though. And sometimes there’s a nice surprise.

I think you nailed it: an issue about "the music business"; a special issue about music would have been something completely different.

As an ignorant reader, other than the odd bit of gossip or public outrage, "One for the Money" was an entertaining insight to the world of private performances. It did get repetitive, but was otherwise interesting for this ordinary person. He had an inexplicable throw away line suggesting that it was baffling that AC/DC are in the no-go zone for private performances. Huh? They're uber wealthy, have always been true and principled, never step outside their lane, and live quietly in tax effective countries. I got the impression he doesn't know anything about the band. It was just a weird moment in this long piece.

I agree, I hadn't read those other articles on private performances and found this one by far the most interesting in this week's issue. Some of this is due to my own personal preferences of enjoying stories about business and money more than profiles (usually).

But George Eliot and Marian Evans are the same person!

Oh my gosh - I'm sure that contributed to my confusion! I knew that, in some part of my brain, but didn't put two and two together. I'll add a note.
